CSN Paraná is a lamination and coating unit of CSN (Companhia Siderurgica Nacional) located in Araucária, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, Brazil. Its main products are CSN Galvalume (galvanized steel with a zinc and aluminum alloy), CSN Pre-Painted Steel, and galvanized steel with pure zinc coating. CSN Paraná has a forecasted annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of pre-painted products, 230,000 tons of galvanized steel, and 220,000 tons of stripped hot-rolled coils. The company demonstrates environmental concern, with commitments to the Environmental Institute of Paraná and the use of modern equipment for emission control and effluent treatment.

The Challenge

CSN Paraná faced a challenging scenario with lengthy processes for updating over 100 indicators and manual opening of Corrective Action Reports (CAR) and Preventive Action Reports (PAR), with time-consuming analysis of criteria. Rework was often needed to ensure indicator accuracy, and there was difficulty in critically analyzing indicators at managerial meetings and correlating them. Furthermore, the company relied on individuals to obtain information, and indicators were vulnerable due to being stored in spreadsheets.

The Solution

To reverse this scenario, CSN Paraná adopted the SoftExpert Performance module for performance management. Based on three levels of administration – strategic, tactical, and operational – SoftExpert Performance provides a simple way to control the performance indicators of individual business units, aligned with the overall corporate management strategy. With comprehensive functionality, including interactive scorecards, strategic maps, dashboards, and preconfigured reports, the software associates indicators and initiatives with strategic objectives.
